What Is Microneedling?
The microneedling treatment uses an electric device containing 12 fine needles. Is Microneedling Safe?
Microneedling is safe for a wide range of skin types and tones when performed by a trained and certified provider. Hundreds of thousands of treatments have been performed worldwide without any adverse side effects. However, you will want to take extra precautions if any of the following applies to you:
You have used Accutane treatments for acne within the last few months
You have cuts, open wounds, or abrasions on your skin
You have undergone radiation treatments on your skin over the previous year
You have an active skin condition, infection, or herpes sores in the treatment area
You are currently pregnant or breastfeeding
You have a history of hypertrophic scars, keloids, or poorly healing wounds
Procedure
When you arrive for your appointment, we will cleanse the treatment area and then apply a topical anesthetic about 15 minutes before the procedure begins to ensure the skin is comfortably numb. During the treatment, we use a serum to aid the needling device in gliding gently across your skin’s surface. The needling produces a vibrating, tingling sensation on your skin. The tiny needles penetrate the skin, creating mini-punctures that trigger the body’s growth factors to induce collagen production. The skin will bleed slightly for the first few seconds. The microneedling treatment takes approximately an hour to complete.
Recovery
After your treatment, darker skin tones will be red for an hour or less, and lighter skin tones or more sensitive skin will be red for several days. The skin will be swollen, and tiny pinpoint scabs appear after 24-72 hours. Do not scratch, exfoliate, or touch the scabs to prevent any scarring on the skin. The scabs will gradually fall off independently, and the swelling will subside within a week. Avoid exercise, massages, and hot showers for 48 hours after treatment. You may apply a soothing moisturizer to alleviate any dryness, tightness, or itching. We recommend avoiding sun exposure as much as possible and protecting your skin with SPF 30 sunscreen or higher.
Microneedling Results
